bridges national monument

Moki Dugway is a road carved out from the side of a cliff and overlooks Valley of the Gode and Monument Valley, we drove this to the top of the escarpment to Muley point for lunch.

Moki Dugway

Cool striations and formations in the rock.   Note the missing left rear mudflap, lost in near Mexican Hat....

On top of Muley point you look down into San Juan river that meanders its way along.

Looks like an excellent spot for lunch.

After Muley point we made tracks for Bridges National Monument, a group of rock bridges all clustered together.    We hiked down into the valley to get up close to the bridges, they are huge and it was an interesting hike down where in a few spots had ladders placed to continue downwards into the lush valley.

Bridge in the back ground.

For scale it is 240 feet high and 270 feet long.

This was was pretty skinny and looked to be eroding the fastest but was also the coolest.

From there we headed north looking for a spot to camp for the night.  I looked on the map and saw that there were a few spots that sat on Lake Powell so off we went but once at the spots there was no water to be seen anywhere, the lake is so low that the branches of the lake that had water in it are completely empty and non existent, in the picture below where we camped there was a picture on a bulletin board of a lake right in front of us with house boats, speed boats and water skiers all having fun while others camped on waterfront spaces like the one we are at!!

Oh well at least there was no one around and we had a big fire and a little party as we had our own flat rock dance floor just above the fire.........yeehaaw!
